Great , Authentic and CHEAP Thai food in Makati

I just ate authentic Thai food in this small carinderia (canteen) near Rockwell and I am utterly amazed. It is so small and non-descript that having been a resident of Makati for 27 years and having passed that road so many times, I never had an inkling such a place existed. This great find is called Som's and is located in Gen. Luna Street Cor. Algier St., Poblacion, Makati City, Metro Manila (right before the old Dog and Cat hospital).

Thanks to A for bringing me there, I had a great dinner which consisted of Green Beef Curry, Pad Thai, Tom Yum, Garlic and Pepper Shrimp and my favorite drink, Thai tea (this is tea with milk). Interestingly enough, their menu had Green Curry, Red Curry and another kind (i forgot but I'm sure its a color too) and the difference is in the quality and how it its made. Apparently, Green and Red Curry are home made and is more flavorful than the others. Servings are good for two people and with all the food we ordered, we didn't even get to finish it and had enough to bring home, considering 4 people shared all the food mentioned earlier!

Another big plus factor is the price - we only spent 450 pesos for everything! Nothing beats getting to eat yummyfood for such a cheap price. This is one place I would definitely recommend and go back to as well.

For those familiar with the way to Rockwell, dont forget to visit Som's if you're craving for great Thai food.

Bohol family trip

Went to Bohol just a few days ago with family and friends just bcause we haven't really done such a thing for quite a while.

Had a pitstop in Cebu for a day where we pigged out on uber-yummy local food (danggit, longganisa, lechon cebu, mangoes, kilawin na tuna etc etc) i think i gained 5 pounds overnight.

If you ask me what else I did in Cebu... well I shopped in the mall and bought a sarong and slippers for the beach. Sorry I couldn't resist. SHoppong makes me happy hahaha.

And then it's off to Bohol for our party of 16 people which included parents, brothers, sisters, nephews, in laws and family friends.

We stayed in the Alona Palm Beach Resort, which in my opinion is the best resort in that strip. WHy?

1. The villas were fantastic. Rooms were spacious, impeccably clean, tastefully decorated and fully furnished with a great veranda that had two day beds facing the sea.
2. They had a huge infinity pool facing the ocean which was half and half saline and water = no chlorine and no need for goggles!
3. The restaurant had a four page menu and all that we ordered was made from scratch and tasted great, to the point that I rave about their corned beef breakfast. Their German chef is really talented I must say. I will never forget their Goulash Soup yummmy.
4. The sand at the beach was very white and fine in texture, like Boracay although less commercialization as there weren't any other places you could go to at night.
5. Staff was very efficient and friendly.

AND we had great tour guides that showed us around Bohol, from the old churches there to the historic and natural highlights of the province. Thanks to Mang Filo! If any of you are going to Bohol soon, I recommend looking for Mang Filo to take you around via van. He really knows his stuff. COntact me for his number.

Anyway, despite the fact that it rained during our stay there and I had at most only 3 hours of sun, it was memorable nonetheless. This is one place I'd go back to again anytime.

Thailand 24 hour enduro kart race (part 2)

I know, I know.

The second part to this trip is so long overdue. So sue me!

Moving along now...

And so I reached Pattaya. We ended up staying in this hotel which is pretty simple and straightforward. and CLEAN i must say. But expectedly since it is Pattaya, the moment you step out of the hotel, it reminds me of being in P. Burgos St. in Makati. Girly and Gay bars abound, with squealing ladyboys and girls screaming over the foreigners. you get the picture? but they didnn't care any less for the females (Thank You God) =)
I did'nt really care to document or take pics of our Pattaya hotel because we really didnt spend much time there. We really stayed in the Birakart Track for 24 hours literally.

The 24 hour Enduro kart race was exciting and tiring at the same time. Exciting because we didn't know what to expect, and tiring because it took soooo long. I basically was just there to support A and the team. I was mother hen/housekeeper/medic/pitboard crew/radio = all around rah rah girl haha. It was fun too for a lot of reasons, mainly being in Thailand for the first time and helping out in an Enduro race for the first time EVER as well.

The really memorable part of the Race was when it rained...more like it poured haha. The organizers had to postpone the race for around 6 hours to wait for the rain to stop because the weather was like a typhoon in the making. The track and the HQ tents for the teams were already flooded, leaving everything just soggy, wet, smelly and bottomline DANGEROUS for the karters. The weather was that B-A-D.

But on with the race, and the Philippine team managed to gain a lot of time in the rain. Good thing we had gung-ho karters who were game to go out and just drive despite the conditions.

And the end of it all is, the team WON 2nd PLACE out of 23 international teams coming from all parts of the globe (France, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, etc etc).

I guess it was a combination of team work, good strategies and great driving which brought the trophy home. Go Philippines! =)

! REACH FOR THE STARS !

I started this blog months ago to write about things I like, and in no particular order, my top 4 are food, travel, people, and sports.

My entries can be a mix and match of all four, so hope you do enjoy!
